Next week, on the 9th of September, we celebrate National Fitness Day – a day of getting out there, getting active, and having fun! (nationalfitnessday.com)
National Fitness Day, 9th of September 2015, is the biggest and most visible annual celebration of physical activity of the year. It is the day to celebrate the role that physical activity plays across the UK. This year, our aim is to make National Fitness Day the most active day of the year. Thousands of clubs, parks and leisure centres are opening their doors to welcome you for free. We all know the benefits regular exercise deliver including a healthier heart and a better quality of life. But many of us find getting fit a challenge and it shouldn’t be.

The reason personally I think this day is so important, is because of what Sport and Fitness teaches our children.
Team Sports teach just that – how to be a team. How to work with people you might not enjoy working with, how to make friends, how to be a good sport – how to win, and lose, together.
Solo Sports and competitions teach us the value of hard work, and dedication. They teach us to strive, and push ourselves, and congratulate others on their success.
And Individual Fitness teaches us how to work on ourselves, how to enjoy our own company and celebrate our own achievements. How to be proud of what we can do.
There’s no doubt that Staying Active is important. And with so many people joining together for National Fitness Day, I want to do my own part.
So what can I do?
My two boys love rugby, football – any game involving a ball really! Which is nice and simple, and means I’ve got ideas for a few little activities to keep us going! They’re only little (17 months & 2.5years) so we will be having a little kick around by ourselves. They are also really into throwing, particularly at me – so I’m making a hoop so we can have a throwing competition (we will all win!). And my eldest loves joining in during my workouts – so when my littlest is napping, we’re going to get our Aerobics on!!
Once my partner is home and the boys are in bed, I’m also going for a nice run by myself. Because I’m pretty sure after a full day of over-excited toddlers, I’ll probably need some time to myself!!
I will be tweeting throughout the day and joining in the hopefully huge amounts of people, companies, gyms, bloggers and social media sites getting involved in this great idea.
